Get Cracking this Easter with our Eggcellent Decorating Tips
Posted by
onEaster arrives early this year, so let's get cracking!
Our four-day Easter weekend starts on Good Friday, 29 March. Everyone will catch up with family and friends for Easter lunches or barbecues throughout the weekend, but especially on 31 March, Easter Sunday.
Don’t delay! Scroll on to discover fuss-free ways to decorate for a magical time with loved ones and host a lunch, Easter egg hunt, or party that ‘everybunny’ will think you spent weeks planning.
Spread Easter Cheer
Even though it’s technically early autumn, there’s still a feel of summer in the air. So, when you decorate, think bright colours and iconic Easter symbols, like eggs, rabbits, carrots, and chicks. Let’s start with outdoor decorating, then we’ll move inside.
We love Easter inflatables, and our must-have is this bunny in basket. Set up any inflatables away from trees and shrubs that could snag and puncture them.
Every front door needs a pastel egg or a wooden bunny Easter wreath. More delicate peaches and cream, tulip, and apricot floral wreaths are better suited to indoors. Accessorise all your wreaths with wooden bunny hanging decorations, carrot drops, and woodland bunny pendants.
Moving from room to room, place bunnies on tables and shelves. For a rustic, homespun look, choose jute and sisal bunnies. Or, if traditional is more your taste, these light-up bunnies and multicolour dressed bunnies will do the trick. Create delightful mini displays with a few orange dahlia stems.
Terrific Easter Tree Trimming
Time to set up your Easter tree! We choose prelit white birch trees and natural trees with moss-flocked limbs for convenience. Typically, Easter trees stand around one metre tall or shorter and are placed atop a sturdy table or sideboard in the lounge or dining room.
Trim your Easter tree like you would your Christmas tree. Drape string ornaments before hanging ones. Wrap Easter egg garland from top to bottom. Then, cut lengths of Easter ribbon from this roll of 14 different styles to weave through the branches. After that, hang egg-shaped and other ornaments on all the branches.
- retro paper egg ornaments (4 designs)
- chinoiserie hanging eggs (set of 3)
- tin egg ornaments (3 designs)
- Easter Wishes
- Easter Blessings
- Easter Beautiful
Lastly, create a display at the base of the tree using figurines and floristry to complete the look. Simply arrange your figurines in a charming vignette.
Centrepieces of Attention
Decorate a beautiful table and ensure a memorable meal. First, lay out a table runner. Choose from traditional Easter styles or go whimsical with a grassy table runner and a green moss runner.
Next, time for your centrepiece. Our top picks:
Decorative baskets, such as a daisy basket or Bethany Lowe’s large papier mâché basket. Build up a floristry display that fills the basket and strew some blossoms and stems along the table. We suggest magnolias.
Wreaths laid flat look charming and provide the perfect foundations for larger displays, should you choose. Both pastel egg and apricot floral wreaths work well as centrepieces. Add floristry and pair with mossy flocked bunnies, mossy eggs, and decorative pastel eggs in trays.
Easter Egg Hunt!
Everyone loves watching or participating in an Easter egg hunt. Here’s how we plan a foolproof festive egg-stravaganza:
- Place sets of bunny footprints in criss-crossing paths. Some should lead to prizes while others lead hunters on wild-goose chases.
- Tie Easter ribbon on signs, shrubs, and tree branches.
- Position a few bunnies on garden benches and chairs.
- Along with sweet treats, give some small gifts, such as bubble tubes, ‘hatch-it’ eggs, bunny waterballs, and Easter earrings.
